Abstract

During the last 25 years, considerable progress has been made in drug therapy (1). The application of pharmacokinetic principles to improve patient care has comprised clinical pharmacokinetics, performed in some cases through a hospital-based clinical pharmacokinetic service (CPS). Aminoglycosides are often monitored using pharmacokinetic principles. These drugs are easily assayed (2). Additionally, these drugs display a wide range of interpatient and intrapatient variability in their disposition (3).
