Abstract

Active transport Carrier-mediated transport Diffusion Drug transport Efflux transport Lipid bilayer Passive transport Phospholipid and Vesicle-medicated transport
This chapter describes the composition and importance of biological and other membranes for the transport of drug molecules through them. Various transport mechanisms that include passive diffusion, carrier-mediated transport, and vesicular transport are described via which drug molecule can transport to its target site. The chapter includes some clinical relevance scenarios in which a drug can target and interact with the membrane transport process.
