Abstract
The AIDS epidemic became anchored in another thought pattern familiar
to people: conspiracy suspicions. Scholars from various disciplines define
conspiracy theories as attempts to explain the cause of an event as a secret, deceptive plot by a covert alliance. Conspiracy theory as a term carries
a negative connotation, because conspiracy fears generally lack sufficient
verifiable evidence to be taken seriously.
