Abstract
After studying this chapter, the student will be able to:
identify the six classes of nutrients and describe their roles in energy production, exercise performance, and overall health
compare and contrast the three energy systems and explain how each contributes to physical activity at different intensities and durations
interpret the concepts of glycemic index and glycemic load and evaluate their application to exercise and sport performance
assess personal dietary intake using consumer nutrition tools and apply the Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Ranges (AMDR) to develop a balanced, goal-specific meal plan
outline the academic and professional steps required to pursue careers such as registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN), sports dietitian, or nutrition specialist
describe emerging technology such as nutrigenomics and metabolomics and discuss their relevance to personalized nutrition and exercise science
