Abstract
The introduction of microscopes to the field of surgery represents a critical clinical advance. With the introduction of microinstruments, microneurosurgical techniques, and the development of microneuroanatomy, the integration of this technique in neurosurgery opened a new era for the discipline and will serve as the basis for future advances. The concept of microneurosurgery, the history of its evolution, and related techniques and tools are discussed.
