Abstract
Telepsychiatry, the use of real-time video for remote visits, has gained popularity as a means of addressing the growing shortage and uneven distribution of child and adolescent psychiatrists. This chapter reviews the growing role of telepsychiatry in the delivery of care to youth and their families that both mirrors and departs from the traditional in-person encounter. We address the growing research in this area and discuss some of the major considerations when using telepsychiatry, including patient engagement and safety, technology and security, and licensing requirements and regulations. © 2019 Elsevier Inc.
