Abstract
This chapter explores theories of therapy and how they can be used to conceptualize financial health, money disorders, and financial therapy. Understanding what a theory is, why it is important, and how it can be useful to financial therapy professionals is essential to the development of a credible field. The purpose of this chapter is to examine the role of theory in research and practice, introduce the concepts of theoretical integration and technical eclecticism as they relate to financial therapy, and provide a practical understanding of theory to inform readers how to better utilize it in their financial therapy-related work.
