Abstract

Healthcare settings Lifespan immunization Nursing roles Public health Vaccine hesitancy Vaccine uptake
Nurses play a critical role in promoting safe, effective immunization practices across the lifespan through collaboration with the broader healthcare community. In the current climate of increasing vaccine hesitancy, nurses and other healthcare professionals face ongoing challenges in addressing misinformation and misconceptions related to vaccinations. Nurses are uniquely positioned to educate patients and their families, promote informed decision-making, and advocate for evidence-based immunization efforts. These professional contributions, enable nurses to help reestablish vaccinations as the public health “boon” of the twentieth century while addressing the emerging “bane” of vaccine hesitancy in the twenty-first century [1]. This chapter highlights the roles of registered and advanced practice nurses in vaccine education, advocacy, and leadership to improve vaccine confidence and uptake across diverse healthcare settings.
