Abstract
This chapter analyzes news coverage of the Iran Deal in the broadcast coverage of ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, and Fox News Sunday using indexing theory. Previous research has shown that debates surrounding foreign policy issues are indexed based on the range of debates in Washington, DC. This research confirms that the Iran Deal debate in broadcast news was indexed based on the position of officials in congressional and executive branch sources. However, the criticisms of the administration regarding this deal were significantly covered. The results also present evidence of power indexing in the coverage. The significant presence of Israel as a source of criticism before the deal and the prevalence of the presidential candidates after the deal corroborate power indexing.
