Abstract
Priestly celibacy as a requirement in the Catholic Church continues to be supported by some, opposed by others, and a subject of curiosity in general. Developments leading to Vatican II opened conversations about the practice. During subsequent decades, the commitment to celibacy deepened at the same time that the number of married clergy in non-Catholic denominations becoming Catholic priests and remaining married rose. This background provides important context for [Selin]'s helpful study.
