Abstract
The individual essays in this volume-the last of a four-volume set begun in 2012 with a volume covering "beginnings to 600," ed. by James Carelton Paget and Joachim Schaper (CH, Dec'13, 51- 2035)-are of uniformly high quality, but as a collection the book suffers from several editorial missteps.
