Abstract
This paper describes the concept of an asynchronous learning environment and how it compares with traditional learning environments. It further discusses how these new paradigms of learning environments have been deployed in various higher education institutions. Finally, based upon data gathered by giving a questionnaire to students, the perceived usefulness of such a system is described.
