Abstract
BACKGROUND:|Clinical cases are essential tools in helping students move from didactic knowledge to application of emerging abilities.|Simulated patient cases have been used to promote deeper learning and have been identified as a key component of interprofessional education (IPE) to improve critical thinking.|The premise of IPE is that once health care professionals begin to work together in a collaborative manner, a patient's overall quality of care will improve.|Although IPE is mandated by many health professions' accrediting bodies, schools are struggling to incorporate it into the curriculum. Telehealth technology is an innovative way to facilitate interprofessional team interactions, especially for distance pathway students.|Web Ex videoconferencing allows health care students to participate as a team member in providing direct patient care and engaging in shared therapeutic decision-making.|The purpose of this study is to develop and pilot telehealth Web Ex IPE case activities using interprofessional teams comprised of prescribing healthcare professional (physician assistant- PA) students and pharmacy students.|Standardized patients are also an integral part of this healthcare team and are pivotal in team care plan recommendations.
