Abstract
The first half covered all things NIL and discussed the NCAA rules currently being enforced, the possible consequences of a settlement in House v. NCAA, the implications of the Dartmouth men's basketball team voting to unionize, what may happen if college athletes are deemed employees in the Johnson v. NCAA case, the role of private equity in funding college athletics, and what the next few years may hold for the industry.
The second half examined legal issues around the Olympics. The seminar covered several laws that grant the Olympics and the USOPC favorable status including intellectual property protections and the role of official sponsors, how ambush marketing has been used by others, how U.S. tax law treats Olympians' medal bonuses, why you are watching a new sport in the Olympics and why you are no longer watching a few others, and, Oh Canada - the Canadian scandal over drone use to monitor closed-door practices.
