We have demonstrated that in vitro fluorescence spectroscopic analysis of diseased carotid arteries can identify clinically relevant compositional changes in connective tissue (collagen type I, III, IV and elastin) associated with plaque remodeling and instability. © 2005 Optical Society of America.
