Abstract
The college admissions process can be very overwhelming for students, parents, and schools alike. This study investigates the need and practicality of integrating more Social Emotional Learning concepts into the college counseling program at an independent high school as viewed by recent high school graduates and parents of current students. Previous research is investigated to demonstrate the influences and pressures students face as they investigate opportunities for higher education. This mixed-methods study worked with parents of current high school students and current college students to identify how and where a Social Emotional program may be integrated. Keywords: Social Emotional Learning (SEL), college counseling, college admission, student stress
