Abstract
There is a great deal of research on preventing SIDS and safe sleep practices. Unfortunately, there is a lack of consistency in parental education at birthing hospitals. Birthing hospital staff members need further education on methods to teach parents current safe sleep recommendations, which then can be reinforced in the primary care setting. This quality improvement project sought to validate the current safe sleep education done in the Family Care Center at a Midwestern private hospital through the implementation of a safe sleep policy and follow up with newborn parents about the education they received.
