Abstract
Following the rapid expansion of remote work prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic, this exploration set out to create practice recommendations based on remote pharmaceutical medical affairs leaders’ experiences. Encouraged by gaps in practical governance guidance, this phenomenological study focused on leadership, communication, and technological facets in this now typical real-world work setting. Participants’ testimonials divulged malleable leadership attitudes, tech use considerations, and enhanced communication and recognition tactics that will aid leaders in improving their and their followers’ outcomes in a digital work ecosystem. Correspondingly, the recommendations herein may apply to differing sectors adjusting to comparable setups, as the issues and proposed solutions are unlikely to drastically differ amongst industries, possibly contributing to the origination of best practices for remote leadership in all settings. While Transformational and Transactional leadership practices are confirmed, this exploration’s findings reasonably justify their continuous adaptation. Finally, a practical, realistic, and implementable solution is offered for improved remote leadership practices.
