Abstract
Hypertension is a major problem in the US today. One of the main components in diagnosing and treating hypertension is the proper selection and use of the blood pressure cuff to ensure accurate readings. Blood pressure measurements are used for treating hypertension and as a measure for other critical elements of care such as pain in the hospital setting, however there is little data to review practices on blood pressure cuff selection in the inpatient setting. This paper reviews the current standards and recommendations for hypertension and proper Blood Pressure measurement in the Pediatric Population. It discusses the best practices for blood pressure cuff selection by using an arm circumference to ensure the most accurate blood pressure readings, and ways to better utilize this in the inpatient setting.
