Abstract
The problem of this thesis is to compare the syllabi of the various states in order to determine trends in the teaching of Biology. A casual inspection of the syllabi of even a few states reveals a general disagreement in regards to a number of points and a common agreement in regard to a number of other points. Some of these points are: listing of specific objectives of Biology, length of the Biology outline, the relative detailed attention given to the content of the course, laboratory work, types of courses, the year in which Biology is recommended to be taught, microscopic work, field trips, the use of visual aids, the use of an adopted or recommended text, teachers qualifications and a number of other points related to the foregoing. It is upon these points that the syllabi of the various states in high school Biology are to be judged.
