Abstract
Wilhelmj (1) began, in 19^0, to study the effects of each of the three main dietary substances (protein, carbohydrate and fat) on the heart rate and blood pressure of normal dogs. | In a preliminary report Wilhelmj (1) established control heart rate and blood pressure values for the normal dog. The heart rate varied between 43 and 78 beats per minute. The systolic pressure ranged from 95 to 136 mm. Hg. The diastolic pressure ranged from 43 to 68 mm. Hg. These controls were established on thirteen dogs who were considered to be at an optimal nutritional level. They received daily a weighed amount of a standard kennel diet which kept them in caloric equilibrium and which consequently kept their weight relatively constant.
