Abstract
The reaction of diethyl bromomalonate and sodium phenoxide has been observed to yield both diethyl monophenoxymalonate and diethyl diphenoxymalonate. The solvent employed was found to influence the ratio of diethyl monophenoxymalonate to diethyl diphenoxymalonat e obtained. | The purpose of this investigation was to determine a mechanism for formation of the disubstituted malonate and to further study the effect of the solvent system on the reaction.
