Abstract
This work endeavors to present precisely what the title of the thesis suggests — A Survey of Kansas Poetry. In choosing the subject for this thesis, the writer was largely influenced by the fact that her early life was spent on the Kansas prairies. The accounts of the hardships endured by her parents in founding a home in a new country, after their emigration from Germany, and their trials in extracting a living from Kansas soil, have stimulated her interest in Kansas life and Kansas poetry.|It is, therefore, with considerable interest that this investigation of the facts concerning the poetry of Kansas has been made. The thrilling history of Kansas has inspired many writers within the state and elsewhere, both in the field of poetry and prose. The prose writings about Kansas are perhaps better known than the poetic productions; hence, the field most unexplored is that of poetry.
