Abstract
Investigators of cellular metabolism employ two methods to elucidation metabolic processes. These are reconstructed enzyme or multienzyme systems and tissue siloes or dispersed cell suspensions. The advantages of using dispersed cell suspensions rather than tissue slices are: a reduction in the possibility of anoxia, a facillitatIon In cellular penetration of metabolic inhibitors or activators, and a more homogenous cellular population. However, the usefullness of cell suspensions is United by differences in membrane permeability, which varies with tissue source (1). This limitation expresses Itself as a lack of respiration and anaerobic glycolysis (1) (2) (3) In rat kidney and liver cells.
