They have assumed that the hemolysis observed in vivo is a manifestation of the alteration of glucose metabolism brought about by the dye. | Because workers have reported the production of anemia by anticholinesterases (6, 8), and Augustinsson has published results which show methylene blue to be a potent inhibitor of cholinesterase (5), It became desirable to determine the significance of this anticholinesterase action In the production of anemia by the dye.
