Abstract
Advancement in the field of medicine has progressed at a rapid rate during the last 50 years. During this time finer diagnostic tools have been developed and keener diagnostic methods have been employed. Studies on the etiology of disease have led to the practice of immunization against many diseases and to the better understanding of other diseases so that they can be more readily controlled and effectively treated. New and more effective therapeutic agents have been added to the armamentarium of the physician} some so effective that diseases which formerly were often fatal are today considered only as transitory minor ailments. These are a few of the blessings which have befallen us through progress in medicine.
