Abstract

United States--History Mexico--History
The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo signed on February 2, 1848, was designed to restore the peace between the United states and Mexico and place the relations of the two countries upon a friendly basis as would prevent the future occasion for war or strife. There were, however, too many differences in feeling and attitude between the two peoples and too few similarities to permit the permanent existence of peaceful and harmonious conditions.
