" |The main purpose of this chapter is to examine the central aspects of the Victorian Age which are significant to Matthew Arnold’s Hellenic thought. The purpose in rapidly reviewing this era is to establish a basis for judging the quality of Arnold’s thought as compared with the period in which he was involved.
