Abstract
It is the purpose of this study to analyze the fiction of Ernest Hemingway in order to bring to light a certain philosophical thread which runs through, and serves to unify, a major portion of his writings. Since this thread of unity has its analogues in some of the philosophical tenets proposed by Jean-Paul Sartre, these related tenets will be incorporated into this study for the purpose of comparison. By means of analysis and comparison, the significance of Hemingway's fiction will be elucidated.
