Abstract

Reading is not a unique ability, or a single complex of abilities, but a series of complex activities that vary with the kind of material read and the purpose for which the reading is done. Attainment in reading is influenced by many personal and environmental factors and progress in reading tends to parallel closely the total development of the learner.
