There are momenta In history of crucial significance because political leaders have dared to accept a challenge. Thus It was with Andrew Jackson in the presidential election of 1832, There was but one issue —and that, the bank. Jackson had viewed the Issue as a principle of his program, and since he cared less for his popularity, he had accepted the challenge with all the ability and genius that had merited for him ’’Old Hickory.”
