Abstract
Background: The Northern States Group - The following circumstances leading to formation of Mexco Development Company provide some insight into the personality and spirit of adventure of Mexco's management. | Aspirations of the Northern States Group. — A group of successful businessmen, bankers, and regional farmers from the Dakotas had made periodic trips to Mexico for rest and relaxation for a number of years. One of these men, Mr. Jackson, decided these trips could be made highly profitable to himself and others of the group by developing an exclusive membership yacht and country club in Mexico. Mr. Jackson and the Northern States Group decided on a 275 acre parcel of land recommended by the Mexico Department of Tourism after looking at the land and surrounding area during June, 1964. They obtained a verbal option to purchase real estate property which was strategically located along a coastal highway. Historically, towns and projects on coastal highways in Mexico have blossomed into tourist areas; for example, Guaymas, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta have experienced rapid growth.
