Abstract
Multiple barriers infringe on adequate pain management in pediatric patients. Effective pain management includes proper identification through use of pain scales, adequate education on usage of pain scales, and prompt treatment while acknowledging the various developmental stages of children. Infants and toddlers lack the physical ability to verbalize their needs, thus providers must rely on their assessment skills. The aims of this scholarly project are to 1) develop a succinct, thorough teaching resource for nursing staff on pediatric pain assessment tools and 2) evaluate knowledge of nursing staff following the educational intervention.
