Abstract
Research shows that skin cancer causes more deaths each year than any other cancer. With the prevalence and high mortality rate of skin cancer, it is imperative that nurse practitioners are equipped with the knowledge and skills to carry out an appropriate assessment for skin changes that might be cancerous. The purpose of this research project is to evaluate nurse practitioners’ knowledge and skill level regarding skin cancer screening in primary care. The Health Promotion Model Theory will be a foundation upon which the research project is formulated. The design of this research project is a descriptive study in the form of a questionnaire/survey sent to nurse practitioners where topics such as basic knowledge and skill level of skin assessments will be examined. The outcome goal of this research project is to gather information and discover deficits in nurse practitioner’s educational needs regarding skin assessment training to improve patient outcomes.
