Abstract
The purpose of this research is to determine: |1. Whether or not the compound 5-(p-acetoxy-phenyl)-4,6 dicarbethoxycyclohexanedione-1,3 forms a chelate with the calcium of human blood serum. If so how much? Serum has been selected because the clotting factors have been removed. |2. Whether or not 5-(p-acetoxy~phenyl)-4,6 dicarbeth-oxycyclohexanedione-1,3 prevents whole blood (dog blood) from coagulating. If so for how long? And in what concentration? |3. To determine whether or not the sodium salt of 5-(p-acetoxy-phenyl)-4,6 diearbethoxycyclohexanedione-1,3 when injected into a living animal (dog) will cause prolongation of the animal’s bleeding time, coagulation time or prothrombine time and thus serve as an anticoagulant. Toxicity is also to be observed. Derivatives of the above compound are used, because the parent compound is insoluble in water.
