Abstract
The fundamentals of antibiotic therapy and laboratory investigations have been fully explored for more than a decade since penicillin was made available for general use. Investigators delved into their mode of action and factors influencing their activity and the correlation between in vitro sensitivity and clinical results. The properties, potentialities and limitations of antibiotics discovered in this brief span of time, guided the practitioner to correct and discriminate use. | However, the search is still continuing for an ideal omnipotent drug, with no limitation as to its use. | The preparation of this paper was undertaken in an attempt to present a review of sensitivity testing of antibiotics in vitro and their stability in agar media, A mere fraction of the knowledge of in vitro activity is presented here.
