Abstract

Catholicism Catholic Church--Religious Orders Classics Gregory the Great
This study is "based on the first five books of Gregory's correspondence. Assuming that the chronology is generally correct, these five "books cover the first one-third of Gregory’s career as pope. Being 55 years old by this time, Gregory must have become quite firmly established and fixed in his ways. Undoubtedly, therefore, there occur no basic changes in attitude, etc., during the succeeding years when he wrote the remaining two-thirds of his letters.
