Abstract
Our knowledge of salt effect and common Ion effect is mostly derived from the classic works of Noyes and Bray (1), Bray and Winninghoff (2), Harkins and Winninghoff (3), Harkins and Paine (4), and others (5) from their studies of the solubility of such electrolytes as thallous chloride, calcium sulfate, and barium iodate in the presence of other salts. These electrolytes are, of course, only slightly soluble in water, and our knowledge of salt effect in the case of highly soluble electrolytes is, to a large extent inferred from these studies.
