Abstract
In today's modern supermarket there are over 7,000 items on the shelves awaiting selection by the consumer. It behooves one to pause and consider how such a large and varied array of goods from all over the world has been assembled for the convenience of the homemaker. The modern wholesale grocer a vital link in the marketing of the food products found in grocery stores today, has helped to make all this variety possible at prices that allow large scale consumption by the consumer. | It shall be the purpose of this paper to examine some of the changes that have occurred in grocery wholesaling during the past twenty years, and to suggest what lies ahead for the wholesale grocer. In the past a wholesaler in the food field was primarily an assembler and purveyor of groceries. The changing times and the upheaval in the marketing structure during these past two decades have caused the wholesale grocer to alter his philosophy and to seek new goals and objectives . To attain these goals, the wholesaler in the food industry has had to avail himself of the latest methods and equipment, and to change his operations in order to utilize this new technology to serve his customers adequately.
