Financial ratios can play an important part in evaluating the performance and financial condition of a firm. This paper seeks to resolve the problem of which ratios to select by examining ratios found useful in recent empirical studies, reconciling the differences in them, and categorizing them by a substantially reduced number of seven basic financial factors suggested in the literature.
