Abstract
The alpha-cut is generalized to depend on relations other than greater-than-or-equal-to. Various measures of fuzziness and specificity are also generalized as assessment functions. A consistent notation and terminology are developed. Possibility theory is introduced, and the assessment functions are recast as potential functions. The nonspecificity function is seen to have special relevance.
