Abstract
Cutaneous biopsies can provide important information regarding the pathology, severity, and treatment of skin disease. Familiarity with different skin biopsy techniques, and the clinical indications for each type of biopsy, helps maximize disease detection and patient satisfaction. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the indications for skin biopsy, various biopsy and suture techniques, wound care, and complications. This article outlines methodologies for the most common biopsy techniques used in dermatologic practice: curettage, snip, shave, saucerization, punch/core biopsy, and incisional and excisional in toto. © 2016 Elsevier Inc.
