Abstract
Two isotypic cerium tellurite halides with the formulas [Ce 2Te 7O 17]Cl 2 and [Ce 2Te 7O 17]Br 2 have been synthesized hydrothermally via the reactions of CeCl 3 and CeBr 3 with TeO 2. The structures of these compounds feature a cationic inorganic framework. The CeIV dimers are bound by a novel 3D Te 7O 17 6- building unit, forming an unusual hexagonal-bipyramidal environment around Ce IV.
