The administration of George W. Bush left the international credibility of the United States in tatters and seriously undermined any U.S. claim to leadership in human rights and the rule of law. The administration of Barack Obama can begin to repair the damage by re-engaging the United Nations, reaffirming adherence to the Geneva Conventions, emracing the Kyoto process to control climate change, and engaging the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
