Abstract
This essay places in dialogue St. Augustine and the French philosopher Bruno Latour. Specifically, it makes a typological connection between the failure of the late Roman state in the fourth century and the current realities stressing the state in late modernity. It argues that the eschatological political theology of St. Augustine remains a useful dialogue partner for us as we face a season of rapid and confusing political change.|Keywords: climate change, Augustine, Bruno Latour, eschatology, modernity
