Abstract
Myocardial hypertrophy not only contributes to cardiac dysfunction, but it also is a reliable indicator of the presence of a significant disease process. Drs Jaffe and Roberts review the clues available through the physical examination, the ECG, and the chest roentgenogram that can help make the diagnosis of ventricular hypertrophy easier. They also discuss the more sophisticated noninvasive methods of assessing heart disease, including echocardiography, thallium imaging, and radionuclide ventriculography, which are becoming important in the evaluation of myocardial hypertrophy.
