Abstract

Atrial Fibrillation
Despite recent advances in the understanding of atrial fibrillation (AF) pathophysiology, the disease remains incompletely understood. Evidence suggests that AF pathogenesis is multifactorial, involving structural and electrical remodeling and inflammation. AF is a progressive disease associated with increased risk of stroke, heart failure, and all-cause mortality, and incidence is expected to rise dramatically as the population ages.
