Abstract
Purpose: To correlate the findings on total-body FDG-PET scan (tbPET) with other imaging studies like CT scan of the chest and upper abdomen, CT scan of the head and bone scan in staging lung cancer. Methods: Fourteen patients (11M, 3F) with newly diagnosed lung cancer, prospectively underwent tbPET, CT scan of chest and upper abdomen, CT scan of the head and bone scan. All x-rays, bone scan and tbPET were interpreted by a qualified physician without knowledge of the clinical findings. Findings on tbPET were correlated with findings on other imaging studies. Lesions were considered positive or negative based on either histology or clinical correlation. Results: Correlation of tbPET findings and other imaging studies is shown in Table 1. Both tbPET and CT scan identified clinically unsuspected brain metastases in three patients. There were no false negative findings with tbPET. Conclusions: TbPET did not miss metastatic disease in any patient. Clinical Significance: As a single imaging modality, tbPET can be useful in staging lung cancer.
