Abstract

Hyperthermic patients who come to the ED with higher initial temperatures, hypotension, or low Glasgow Coma Scale scores are more likely to die. To cool patients: • Use evaporation cooling. • Avoid alcohol sponge baths due to risk of drug absorption. • Avoid antipyretic agents because they are not effective.
