Abstract

burnout DNP curriculum well-being
Nursing graduate students experience stress within multiple intersecting demands. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing emphasizes the importance of well-being content. Graduate nursing faculty at Creighton University College of Nursing identified a need for improved wellness content in the curriculum. We designed and implemented modules for wellness content within practicum courses across DNP programs. The content was delivered in a systems thinking approach for longitudinal learning. Students completed wellness content and surveys. Content was evaluated through self-reflective activities. Reports of student perceptions demonstrated improved self-awareness of well-being and identified strategies to integrate content in their lives. This novel approach to integrating wellness content may assist faculty in aligning curriculum with core competencies. More importantly, it increases graduate students’ awareness of well-being and supports integration of wellness throughout their program and professional careers. •Nursing graduate students experience high stress levels.•Integrating wellness content increases graduate students’ awareness of well-being and supports integration of wellness throughout their program.
